I collect two types of information about my site visitors: aggregated “traffic data” derived mainly by tallying page views throughout my sites using Google Analytics; and personal data that some visitors provide through optional, voluntary participation in my Ask Dr. Shubs section, other such sections, by ordering books or videos using Google Checkout, or through email messages sent to any of the email addresses included on any of my sites.
I collect information and use it to tailor my sites’ content to my users’ needs and to help any advertisers I might have to better understand the demographics of my audience. I sometimes share the aggregated demographic information with my advertisers and any partners I might have. I never share any of this information about specific individuals with any third party.
Contests
From time to time, I may offer voluntary, optional contests, such as book giveaways or other such offerings, in which I would request certain personal information, including the user’s name, email address, company name, job title/function, and the other information specific to the contest. I use tracking information to determine which areas of my sites users like and don’t like, based on traffic to those areas. I do not track what each user reads, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps me to continue to build a better service for you.
I create aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for advertisers and partners, if I should have any. This allows my advertisers to advertise more effectively, and allows my users to receive advertisements that are pertinent to their needs. Because I do not track the usage patterns of individual users, an advertiser or partner will never know that a specific user clicked on a specific ad.
With whom do I share the information I gather/track?
I use the information described above to tailor my sites’ content to suit your needs and to help my advertisers, if I should have any, better understand my audience’s demographics. This is essential to keeping my web service free. I do not share information about individual users with any third party.
